Type something
I know getting your photos taken— especially for the first time— can feel a bit overwhelming. Even if you’ve done it before, it’s completely normal to feel unsure about how to prepare for the big day.
I've put together a list of helpful tips to make sure your photo session goes as smoothly as possible. Check them out below!
There’s nothing worse than discovering a stain or needing to steam a shirt right before your session. To avoid last-minute stress, have everyone (kids and babies included) try on their outfits the night before to check for fit and wrinkles.
If you're planning to wear a short dress or skirt (especially one that might catch the wind) I recommend wearing non-flesh-toned shapewear or biker shorts underneath. For little ones in dresses, please make sure they have a diaper cover or shorts on to keep them fully covered throughout the session. I’ve captured some beautiful moments in the past that unfortunately couldn’t be used due to undergarments showing.
If you plan to bring any props to your session, I kindly ask that you let me know ahead of time. This helps me plan how to best incorporate them into your photos. A helpful tip: place them in a bag or by the front door the night before so they’re easy to grab on your way out!
Please make sure that any remaining balance is paid 24 HOURS BEFORE your session.
Payments should me made via Venmo @captivatingchaosphotography.
Forget how much you owe? Check your inbox for an Invoice Reminder that should be emailed to you 24 hours before your session. Can't find it? Please don't hesitate to ask.
Clean, filed, or manicured nails (with or without polish) are something to keep in mind, especially for maternity sessions where your hands will be in focus, like when holding an ultrasound or props. While I can work some editing magic, things like outgrown manicures or uneven nails are difficult to fix in post-processing.
I love when kids express themselves with temporary tattoos! However, these can take extra time to edit out. If you prefer not to have them in the final images, please be sure to remove all temporary tattoos before the session.
Helpful Tip: If you’re unsure how to remove temporary tattoos, rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer usually works well. Another easy trick is using packing tape—just press it on and peel it off to remove the tattoo.
As we all know, Rhode Island weather can be unpredictable. I monitor the forecast closely to help ensure your session goes smoothly, but conditions can change—even the day before. I will always contact you at least 12 hours ahead if we need to reschedule due to weather. For everyone’s safety, sessions won’t take place during any weather advisories, and we’ll also reschedule if the actual or “feels like” temperature is below 36°F or above 85°F
Life happens—I totally understand! If you need to reschedule, please do so at least 24 HOURS BEFORE your scheduled session. Rescheduling is subject to the photographer’s availability and can only be done once unless it is due to the weather (we can't control Mother Nature after all).
Things can get a little hectic (especially with little ones) so I recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early for your session. Giving yourself a few extra minutes helps everyone feel more relaxed and ready for a great experience.
Give little ones a snack and/or bottle before the session to help them stay happy and focused—but be careful not to spill on their clothes!
Staying hydrated is especially important during the warmer months. I highly recommend bringing a water bottle to your session to help you stay comfortable and refreshed.
Leave items like phones, wallets, and keys in the car to insure a polished appearance in your images (nobody wants to see pocket bulges). If you'd prefer not to, please bring a small bag to store them during the session.
As a parent myself, I understand how tough it can be when little ones aren’t in the mood to pose, sit still, or smile during a photo session. I’ll do my best to engage them, but I encourage you to take a deep breath and go with the flow. Kids tend to respond best when things stay calm and relaxed— and that’s when the magic often happens.
Wearing heels? I recommend bringing a pair of flip-flops or comfortable shoes to wear while walking to the session location, especially since some spots have uneven terrain or are a bit of a walk from parking.
